Damage.
I watch your peace filled slumber; see your dreams of love and life,
The thought that some could cause you hurt cuts through me like a knife.
My self appointed duties keep me vigilant I’ll watch out,
No harm can befall you, not while I’m about.
These noble thoughts, intentions, truly are sincere.
Why then can’t I save you from my own self-doubt and fears?
That I become the very beast I seek to protect you from,
let me hang my head in shame that I could do you wrong.
